Night City, about the development of my first cooperative game. #1

Good day to everyone. My name is Victor, I live in a small cold village in Yakutia. I have been engaged in households, and recently, developing games. As a child, I had a dandy, I regularly played it, but preferred to play on the street. Then I once went to school with my aunt, she then came to practice by a computer science teacher, there I played in my first game on PC. The game was called Blood, it was very terrible, but at the same time delaying, at that moment I fell in love with video games. I bought my first computer when I was 12 years old, for this I worked as a tractor driver all summer, earned 24 thousand rubles in 3 months, and this was enough to buy a powerful computer by the standards of those times, and since then video games have become an integral part of my life.

About the development of games.

Initially, I did not have a goal to develop my game, but to become a developer, and working in a large company was my dream, but life is not a fairy tale, and the dream has the ability not to come true. For about a year, I spent on the search for vacancies in the gamed industry, sent several dozen resumes, some of the answer was not even an answer, some gave test tasks that I coped well, and after which they promised to “contact” the results. Either the lack of experience or education outraged them, or I did not come out with a face, but one way or another I was not taken anywhere.

After I decided, “why don’t I make my game myself,” and began to learn how to make games on my own, the benefit of the Utuba Lessons Wagon and a small cart, but there are not enough Russian -speaking lessons. And so I jumped from the place to the quarry into the pool under the name of the game. Although not without hemorrhoids, he still made an account and bought a slot for the release of the game, stuck his “masterpiece” in a couple of months and as soon as they gave green in Steam, he immediately released it. At that moment, I did not know at all that Steam did not promote an unknown game at all, and for a successful launch you need to advertise the game myself. One way or another, the launch took place, and it was taking into account those mistakes I did not make bad, 900+ dollars this game brought me. After I found a group of games developers, and realized that I was doing everything wrong.

About the development of Night City

The first month turned out to be the most difficult, since I did not understand how the network game works, and nothing really happened, and the multiplayer lessons are very superficial. I entered the unreal Engine groups in the hope that someone can explain to me why certain functions do not work in multiplayer mode, but came across “experts” who did not help, but wrote something like “do not know, do not do”. So, by trial and errors, I myself began to understand the principle of the multiplayer operation.

About Night City

Night City is a cooperative horror game game with survival elements. Here you have to go down to the abyss where you have to look for resources, and useful things for sale. You can buy different useful things, weapons, medicines and provisions for earned money. You constantly need to monitor the state of your character, as the state directly affects health and endurance. The underground map is large and open, but getting to some locations is not easy, there are also hidden locations.

The size of the inventory is limited, so it will not work to go down to the abyss once, and take everything out of there. There is also a simple craft system that will help not only create useful things, but can also free up space in the inventory.

There will be a lot of dangers in the game, the main thing is of them are monsters, they are diverse, and each species with its own unique behavior. Some of them cannot be killed, so the escape may be the only way out. There are also various traps in the game, as well as dangerous anomalies.

Plans and ideas for Night City.

Now I work on the artificial intelligence of the monsters, so that each monster feels unique. Then I’m going to work on the balance, so far I am going to set the price of weapons and cartridges relatively high, so that the player could not arrange a total destruction of all living creatures into the dungeon, otherwise the game from the horror will turn into a shooter, which I do not want. I also make locations in parallel with all this, so that they are diverse.

This is my first blog, so please do not throw slippers 🙂 I don’t know if this blog turned out to be interesting for readers, but I will say so when I did this game I had the feeling that progress was too small, that I did not work enough, but as this text was written, I remembered all the stages of development, and I realized that the work was done huge, and it was even more only smalled by me.
